The Black Friday VPN deals worth buying

Every year virtual private networks (VPNs) battle it out over Black Friday. Whether it’s undercutting each other’s prices, throwing in exclusive deals, or aggressive marketing campaigns, every VPN wants your custom this time of year. But with so many great deals on the market, which ones should you actually consider?

There’s much more to the best VPN than the price you pay, so this Black Friday, I wanted to put together a list of the services that I would genuinely consider—as someone who tests them every day. I’ve only included VPNs that are actually amazing services, and not just the cheapest offers.

The Black Friday VPN deals worth buying

Without further ado, here are my top 5 Black Friday VPN deals that are both excellent services and genuinely worth your time.

Note: all prices are in US$.

1. NordVPN: 69% off and a free Amazon gift card| From $2.99 per month
NordVPN gave me an amazing exclusive for TechRadar readers this Black Friday: subscribe to a 2-year plan and you’ll get a free Amazon gift card of up to $30/£30/30€. With the additional 69% off, that’s the best deal NordVPN’s had all year.

If you want to try before you buy, take advantage of its 30-day money-back guarantee and see for yourself why I rate it as the best Netflix VPN.

2. Surfshark: 2 years + up to 5 months free | From $1.99 per month | 80% off
Surfshark currently tops my charts for the best cheap VPN, and with its Black Friday pricing, it’s doubled down on that fact. With its amazing array of features and rock-bottom prices, it maxed out my speed testing line along with NordVPN. It’s the perfect example of a premium service not needing to be a costly investment.

Plus, if you upgrade to its full security suite, you’ll get an extra five months for free to make it even more of a bargain. Alternatively, if you just want the base package at $1.99, then you’re still getting an absolute bargain, and you’ll bag an additional 3 months free, too.

3. ExpressVPN: 1 year + 3 months free | From $6.67/per month
ExpressVPN hasn’t dropped its prices for Black Friday, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a worthy investment. There’s a reason it holds the crown as the best VPN in 2023: ExpressVPN absolutely screams past the competition when it comes to providing a secure and simple service.

It automates processes that normally require deep technical knowledge and manual configuration, making it easy to use for anyone, anywhere.

See for yourself why I love it so much with a 30-day money-back guarantee. Plus, get a year of unlimited cloud backup for free. If that’s not enough, you also get a built-in password manager and ad-blocker, too.

4. Private Internet Access (PIA): 2 years + 3 months free | From $2.03 per month | 86% saving
Private Internet Access is a long-time veteran of the industry and boasts an enormous server network along with an immense array of configurable tools. Currently sitting in fourth place on my overall VPN ranking list, it’s especially good for anyone looking for torrenting features or a dedicated Linux app.

5. IPVanish: 2 years + 3 months free | From $2.59 per month | 81% saving
Last but not least, IPVanish is another excellent choice and comes in fifth place on my overall rankings. It’s an up-and-coming service with impressive speeds and decent unblocking capabilities. While it isn’t always regarded as the cheapest out there, its Black Friday offer is pretty attractive.

Which VPN’s didn’t lower prices for Black Friday?

Just because something looks like it’s a bargain, doesn’t mean it really is, and some services look like they’ve changed their prices, when in actuality, they haven’t. Unfortunately ExpressVPN and FastestVPN haven’t lowered their prices for Black Friday. However, just because they’re the same price doesn’t mean it’s not a worthy consideration.

ExpressVPN is my go-to service. I use it every single day without fail, and it tops my list of the best VPN services out there, and it wouldn’t have that crown if it didn’t deserve it. Ultimately, ExpressVPN just don’t engage with Black Friday price cuts, and instead it prefers to keep prices consistent throughout the year. If you want the best of the best, you’ll have to pay full price, I’m afraid.

FastestVPN on the other hand is an up-and-coming provider that showed some early promise. With a lifetime subscription for $40, it’s not a bad deal, but again, it’s the same price it would normally be, so it looks like a special Black Friday deal.

Is a VPN neccessary?

A VPN is a nifty tool to have in your arsenal, not only boosting your security and online anonymity but also optimizing your device so you can get far more out of it.

By hopping on a server, your traffic will be rerouted, altering your IP address to appear as if you’re somewhere else entirely. This means your internet activity is less likely to be tracked back to you, which, in turn, offers a range of perks.

You’ll be able to bypass geo-restrictions and access otherwise locked content, such as streaming BBC iPlayer outside the UK. This also means your Internet Service Provider (ISP) can’t see what you’re doing and potentially throttle your bandwidth when carrying out more data-demanding tasks, like streaming or gaming.

Of course, on top of those, more exciting features, a VPN allows you to more safely browse online, keeping your sensitive information under heavy encryption, away from prying eyes. You can find out more in our “What is a VPN?” guide
